The Heist

The Heist written by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg This book is misleading. I went searching for a good romance, and this book is currently the top bestseller in that category. The premise seems like a set up for a romance. Kate O'Hare is a special agent for the FBI and her assignment is to ring in Nick Fox, a con man and one of the FBI's most wanted man. Both are very clever making the chase witty and flirtatious because they seem to have an attraction to each other that neither person knows what to make of. Following her assignment Kate finishes her job and she arrests Nick. She is satisfied with her success, and thinks it is a done deal. Nick will be behind bars and she can move on with her career oriented life. But the FBI decides to partner the master criminal and officer together to capture an even bigger criminal. Now they must work together to pull off a con on the biggest con man to get the billions of stolen dollars back. This premise suggests and almost promises that this odd couple will struggle with their attractions and follow the predetermined course for most fiction romances. Nope. Do not read this book for the romance. You will be disappointed. However if you read it for the clever cop vs criminal element you have tripped into the jackpot. The book remains flirtatious and comical read as Kate must adjust to thinking like a con man while Nick must get used to working for the government instead of stealing from them.

Sandra Bullock

Once you accept this book is not a romance you will find this book has a good plot, hook, and characters beside Kate and Nick. It is amusing and well-thought out. Also I had just seen the movie the Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, a movie about two agents tracking down a drug lord, before reading The Heist, so in my mind Kate O'Hare was Sandra Bullock. I think it makes the story that much better. Not kidding. It really fits Kate's description. Read this book and have a great time reading about the stubborn special agent and the smirking genius con -man. Just don't count on romance. Have I stressed that warning enough yet? IT'S A TRAP!
