Ender's Game written by Orson Scott Card The entire human race is in danger of extinction. The Buggers have invaded us once, and they will come again with technology that will surpass ours, like last time. The only thing that stopped them before was Mazer Rackham We don't have him now, so we need to find someone better than he was. Or we will surely be defeated, and the universe will not care that humankind will be erased.
Third. That's what Ender Wiggin is called. Family's aren't usually allowed to have more than two children, but this is no ordinary situation. Peter and Valentine, Ender's older brother and sister were put under surveillance to see if they were good enough for the battle academy to train for the Bugger war, but while both were incredibly qualified Peter was too cruel and Valentine was too sympathetic. So the government allowed Ender's parents to have a third to see if that child would be the one to go. Ender proved to be a careful mix of his two siblings. He was empathetic and strong, and never wants to be the killer that Peter is underneath his charismatic guise. At six years old Ender is chosen for the battle school.
In this science fiction novel Ender is driven into battle school to train for years at the academy's base in space. Although he is six years old the reader quickly realizes the children in the book are not the "children" we are familiar with. When I was six I was still playing with my toys and dolls not plotting battle strategies and leading others into combat. These children at the school, most ranging from six to twelve years of age, have the mental maturity of someone at least ten years older. Which is the only thing that will get them through battle school.
The school Ender attends trains the child-soldiers with games. They are put into armies and are pitted against each other. Through their schoolwork and battle simulations these army boys and girls learn to grow up fast.
Ender proves himself not just capable of surviving the trials of the battle school, but he surpasses his peers with his intellect, innovation, and natural leadership. However to ensue Ender reaches his potential the instructors and Colonel Hyrum Graff push him to the breaking point through isolation, untimely promotions, and nearly impossible battles. This pressure nearly breaks Ender and would surly break any one else. The reader gets to watch Ender struggle to succeed along with these commanders. The commanders and I worried constantly about whether or not Ender would preserver, but I soon realized we were cheering for different reasons. The reader cares about Enders well being, and the higher officials need Ender to succeed because if he doesn't, the Buggers will kill the whole human race. They will do whatever is in their power to fight back. But no pressure Ender.
