Gorgeous

Gorgeous by Paul Rudnick Becky Randle grew up in a trailer park, and now she is the most beautiful woman in the world. Before Becky's mother died she made Becky promise that something magical would happen to Becky and when the magic came she must say yes. Becky didn't think much of this until after her mother died. When she was sorting through her mothers few things she found a small velvet box with a phone number and the name Tom Kelly, whom she calls. Now this is where things get interesting because Tom Kelly, the most sought after fashion designer, flies Becky to New York and makes her an offer no one could resist. Tom Kelly offers to make three dresses one red, one white, and, lastly, one black to make Becky the most beautiful woman that ever existed. So, Becky calls her best friend Rocher and asks what she should do. Rocher, who speaks for the reader throughout the story yells, with many explicitness, that she would kill Becky herself if she did not take Tom Kelly up on his offer. Becky says yes and Tom Kelly remakes her into Rebecca, a knockout. Whenever Becky is around people she is Rebecca and when she is alone she is average Becky again. In the red dress Rebecca takes on the world.

Gorgeous is a retreat from reality, an escape to where a person can turn beautiful and date celebrities, film movies, and capture the eyes of a prince. This book is a modern day fairytale that teeters on the line between fanciful and ridiculous. As soon as Rebeccas walks up on the world stage, the events that follow rush like a current that the reader will be caught up in. Rebecca rises to the top and lives the dream. Except there is one catch; she has one year to fall in love and get married or everything, Rebecca, will disappear. This story is like a modern day fairytale until everything starts to fall apart when Becky meets Prince Gregory, heir to the British throne. Marrying the Prince would be strategic for Rebecca, but Becky, the small-town girl underneath, begins to fall in love with the Prince. The Prince is stunned by Rebecca, but will he see through to Becky? This book is a fast-paced roller coaster of glamour and will astonish the reader with its far fetched plot. If you want a book to whisk you away to a land where dreams come true, read Gorgeous.
